Analysts are reporting that Intel is leveraging its purchase of Infineon Technologies’ Wireless Solutions business, Avago Technologies network business, and Lantiq to replace Qualcomm as the supplier of cellular radios for some models of the iPhone 7. Apple has a history of attempting to dual-source their components, and the baseband was a key part that until recently they were sourcing exclusively from Qualcomm. This change is believed to be one of the key reasons that Apple dropped CDMA support from some iPhone 7 models.
