Cyanogen MOD, not to be confused with CyanogenMod, is a new set of APIs for Cyanogen OS that allows developers to have a deeper integration into the Android OS. So instead of certain aspects of the Android framework being off limits, Cyanogen OS is opening those up with additional APIs. So Skype can take over the stock dialer, Instagram can stream to your lockscreen & more.
