Tensions between the United States and Iran escalated dramatically on Friday after US President Donald Trump ordered the killing of top Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani. The attack at Baghdad International Airport also killed Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy commander of Iran-backed militias known as the Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF).
