SCOTUS will hear a case on internet sales tax
Bloomberg reports that states may have lost out on as much as $13 billion in 2017 because of the internet’s functionally tax-free status, according to a Government Accountability Office report. The state of South Dakota decided to do something about it; its legislature passed a bill in 2016 that required any retailer with over $100,000 in sales per year to pay a 4.5 percent state tax on
