Prince"s Music is Coming to Spotify

As of Sunday 12th February, Prince’s catalogue of music from his time at Warner Bros. from 1978 to 1996, including 1999, Diamonds and Pearls and Purple Rain, will be available on streaming service Spotify, as well as Apple Music and Napster.

Prince notably removed all of his music from every streaming service except Jay-Z’s Tidal in 2015, but after his death last year in April 2016, leaving no will, the subject of what to do with his estate has been messy.

The tax bill left over after Prince’s death may be anywhere from £80 to £120 million, which would explain this move towards having his work available on more platforms. The singer apparently did little to shield his assets, hence the gigantic bill, which is about half of the worth of his estate. His intellectual property is also reportedly worth somewhere between £80 and £24 million.

Not all of his fans are on board with the idea, though, after Prince took all his music off streaming sites:

But others are excited to be able to listen to his work:
