Deep Space 9 Fans Donate £120,000 to Documentary in Less Than a Day

Deep Space Nine’s fans have spoken, and they want a behind-the-scenes look at their beloved yet divisive Star Trek series. Less than a day after DS9‘s cast and crew announced a fundraising campaign to complete What We Left Behind, the documentary reached its goal of $150,000 (around £120,000) in funding… and that number’s still going up.

The documentary, directed by For the Love of Spock’s Adam Nimoy, features interviews with many of the show’s stars and writers, as well as a writers’ workshop where DS9 showrunner Ira Steven Behr and crew came up with a storyline for a hypothetical eighth season. Some fans were quick to point out the irony about how quickly the documentary was funded, considering the show was considered not popular enough to be converted into HD.

Even though funding has already well exceeded the $150,000 goal, the campaign hasn’t announced any stretch goals yet. However, they did add on Twitter that there’s “more to come,” and there are plans for more rewards for supporters in the future.
