Three of the World’s Richest Politicians (Not Named Trump)

Politicians are supposed to be dedicated public servants, working on behalf of the nation and its people. But many politicians have amassed substantial personal fortunes either before (or during) their time in office. These days, billionaire businessman Donald Trump gets a lot of media attention for his presidential bid, but in reality his fortune pales in comparison to these three of the richest politicians on our list.

  1. Vladimir Putin

Unconfirmed reports and recent speculations have estimated Vladimir Putin’s net worth to be as high as $200 billion! However lower estimates put him somewhere around $40 billion, still making him one of the richest people on earth.  The 2007 Time Magazine “Person of the Year”, Putin has been either the President or Prime Minister of Russia since 1999 (kind of alternating between the two). His lavish lifestyle includes 58 aircraft, 4 yachts, and 20 lavish homes.

  1. Michael Bloomberg

To talking about the richest politicians in the world, the name which appears at the top of many lists is Michael Bloomberg who as of 2016 has a personal net worth of over $46 billion! This makes him the 6th richest person in the United States and the 8th richest in the world. His career in politics began in 2001 when he was elected as mayor of New York City; an office he held for three consecutive terms.

  1. Silvio Berlusconi

Silvio Berlusconi is one of the richest men in Italy and also one of Italy’s longest serving former Prime Ministers. He started out as a real estate investor but made his real fortune as a media tycoon. He is the owner of the AC Milan soccer team, but is currently in a deal to sell it to Chinese investors for a reported 400 million Euro. According to Bloomberg, as of 2016, he has an estimated net worth of $7.1 billion.
