The Android 7.0 Nougat update will improve on the dm-verity functionality present since Android 4.4, as it makes verified boot to be strictly enforcing for devices shipping with the new OS. Devices with corrupt boot image or verified partition will either not boot at all, or will boot in a limited capacity with user consent. Although this aims to bring in more reliability, non-malicious data corruption can now affect devices more.
