Teardown of the Google Camera v3.2 apk has revealed support for shooting in RAW as well as JPEG simultaneously. This feature would allow users to have a JPEG file for immediate viewing, while still having a DNG file incase they wish to edit it using third party applications. The teardown does point that the feature may be limited to Nexus devices only.
