A bill is being introduced to the House of Representatives this week by Democratic Representative Ted Lieu and Republican Blake Farenthold. It’s called the ENCRYPT Act and if passed, it would prevent states from mandating that a “manufacturer, developer, seller, or provider” both design and alter the security of a product so that it could be “decrypted or surveilled by authorities”.
